New Rules Meeting with President of Coordination Sud, March 18, 2003

3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The New Rules Coalition will be meeting with Henri Rouille D'orfeuill, President of Coordination Sud, a coalition of 120 French NGOs. The meeting is set for March 18, 3-5 at Oxfam America, 1112 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC  20036 (near farragut north and farragut west metros) call 202-496-1320 for more details.

Joseph Zimet, Non Governmental Cooperation Advisor at the Embassy of France is arranging meetings for Mr. D'orfeuill with Think Tanks, NGOs and foundation in preparation for the upcoming G-8 Ministerial meetings in Evian, France. Mr. D'orfeuill would like to discuss the levels of involvement and participation of the NGO Community during and after the summit.

The general context of the meeting will be the links between European (French) civil society and the American civil society. How to strengthen these links and how to build transatlantic coalitions or campaigns through subjects of common interest (global issues like environment, trade, reform of IFIs, debt).

Mr. D'orfeuill already had meetings with sherpas and the French President to discuss this matter. The question could be how to bring the voice of American civil society to the summit. Can Coordination Sud help?

On specific issues, Mr. D'orfeuill wishes to have time to discuss the views held by members of the New Rules group.

Please visit the Coordination Sud website for more information.
