Organized by
New Rules for Global Finance and the Center of Concern
When the governments of the world gathered at the
Financing for Development Conference (Monterrey, 2002) they issued a call to "broaden and strengthen the participation of
developing countries and countries with economies in transition in international
economic decision-making and norm-setting."
During the 2002 Annual Meetings, the Development Committee requested the
World Bank and IMF to prepare a background document to facilitate consideration
of the governance issue at the upcoming spring meetings.
The
following panelists will provide an update on the status of this discussion
within the Fund and the Bank, and present proposals currently being discussed on
ways to achieve substantial reform of the governance structures of these
institutions. A segment of
questions and answers from the audience will follow.
MODERATOR: John Sewell, former
head of Overseas Development Council
UPDATE ON THE DISCUSSION: Mr.
Tom Bernes, Executive Board Secretary, World Bank will give an update on the
status of the debate within the IMF/WB.
