SDRs are frequently mentioned as a possible source for alternative and additional funding for development. But, what are they?  How do they function?  Can you really “spend” them?  Or are they a form of “reserve currency” and of what use is that to development?

No one seems to know what SDRs are, what purpose they currently serve and what role or roles they could play in global finance.  This is an opportunity to learn from the SDRs’ inventor, Jacques Polak.  Dr. Polak was long the head of research at the IMF.  He also authored the report recommending greater transparency and an Independent Evaluation Office for the IMF. This is a man who knows the Fund and knows the SDRs.  Come to learn and get your questions answered.
