International Workshop: Tools for the Exante Poverty Impact Assessment of Macroeconomic Policies (EPIAM)
Date: October 14-15, 2003
Venue: International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), 2033 K Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006
Co-organized by: the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and a consortium of civil society organizations: the European Network on Debt and Development (EURODAD), the New Rules for Global Finance Coalition, and Oxfam International.
Objectives
The objectives of the Workshop are to (1) take stock of the policy implications of what is known about macro-poverty links, (2) provide an overview of current approaches to the analysis of macro-poverty links, their limitations, and constraints on the effective use of these approaches; (3) discuss how tools for exante poverty impact assessments can be systematically used in developing countries; and (4) outline an agenda for future research.
Target Audience
To achieve the above objective, the workshop intends to bring together top researchers and key representatives from developmental organizations and civil society. In order to facilitate the discussion of highly technical issues, participation is by invitation only. Please note that the workshop is not open to the media.
Organization
The first day of the workshop concentrates on five specific models that can be used for the exante poverty impact assessment of macroeconomic policies. The second day of the workshop concentrates on five roundtable discussions. Excluding Sessions 5a and 5b, each first day session extends over 70 minutes, of which half is allocated to model presentation and the other half for questions and discussion. Excluding Roundtable 5, each second-day roundtable extends over 80 minutes, whereby each panelist has been allocated a maximum of 12 minutes and the remainder for question and discussion.
