Summary of Achievements for 2010
- IMF Governance Reform - New Rules worked diligently to ensure that recommendations emanating from its civil society "Fourth Pillar" project on needed reforms were seriously considered by the IMF.
- "South-South Sharing of Successful Tax Practices" - With funding from the UNDP's Special Unit on South-South Cooperation, New Rules along with Tax Justice Network implemented the emerging "S4TP" project in support of the UN Tax Committee's Subcommittee on Capacity Building. Leading tax professionals from low-income countries were enabled to take online courses on tax treaties; a needs-assessment survey of developing-country tax officials was administered; an interactive website was designed for online learning and collaboration among developing country tax administrators, www.s4tp.org; and plans for research and exchange on Climate Change and Taxation and online training via the S4TP website are ready for implementation in 2011.
- New-rules.org Website - New Rules redesigned and re-launched its website as a state-of-the-art communication tool for Members and others concerned about global financial justice. As part of the website redesign, New Rules also launched: 1) an interactive blog that offers analyses of issues related to the global financial crisis written by Michael Prowse, a former staff writer for the Financial Times of London and The Economist, and 2) a Weekly Update that shares selected financial news and a summary of New Rules' activities.
- Financial Stability Board (FSB) - Going forward into 2011, New Rules initiated a project (in partnership with leading investigators of the African Economic Research Consortium, The Brookings Institution, Development Finance International and the University of Missouri/Kansas City) to promote the voice of low-income countries within the FSB, and assess the FSB's rulemaking on LICs.
