New Rules S4TP Program Facilitates Online Education for African Tax Professionals

The South-South Sharing of Successful Tax Practices (S4TP) program together with the Capacity Building Subcommittee of the UN Committee of Experts in International Tax Cooperation arranged for 30 tax professionals to receive a free license to take one online course offered by the International Bureau for Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), a leading international provider of training on cross-border tax issues as well as independent tax research.

New Rules worked with the Coordinator of the Capacity Building Subcommittee, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui (Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigeria) to coordinate the logistics of the nomination and enrollment process.

The nominees were given a choice of four online courses in the Tax Treaty Series -- Fundamentals of Tax Treaties; Residence; Permanent Establishments and Passive Income.

In general, response from the nominees was very positive; many people were very pleased with the opportunity to take a course and eager for the program to get underway. To date, the following twenty-three individuals have been officially granted access to the materials of the IBFD courses:

Funding for the electronic course licenses was provided through the generosity of the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)'s Special Unit on South-South Cooperation (SU/SSC).

The South-South Sharing of Successful Tax Practices (S4TP) program is a joint project of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs' (UNDESA) Financing for Development Office (FFD/O) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP)'s Special Unit on South-South Cooperation (SU/SSC), implemented by New Rules for Global Finance and Tax Justice Network (TJN).
